Orthotics

Orthotics are used to assist the patient in day to day life; whether it be for walking, standing support, athletics, back or knee support or simple day to day body functions.

A support brace or splint is used to support, align, prevent or correct the function of movable parts of the body.
Arch Supports / Shoe inserts, are orthotic items which are used to help correct an abnormal or irregular walking pattern, by altering slightly the angles at which the foot strikes a walking or running surface.

Compression Stockings are worn on the legs to help reduce swelling of the limbs and improve vascular efficiency, due to varicose veins or similar related medical conditions.
It is advised by most doctors that patients who suffer from varicose veins and wish to avoid blood clots, should wear compression stockings while flying in aeroplanes, travelling on long car trips or simply sitting behind a work desk for long periods of time.

In short; Varicose Veins are large, swollen veins that often appear on the legs and feet. They occur when the valves in the vein no longer work properly and fail to push the blood flow back up the legs towards the heart.

Other orthotic items include neck braces, lumbosacral/back corset, knee braces, hand, arm, wrist supports or Diabetic Orthotic Shoes. These are but a few of the external appliance which we fit and provide to our patients.
